Transforming a Boardroom with High-Impact Graphics

At Fuel Studio, we recently had the privilege of working on an exciting project for our client, Original Engines Co, one of Australia’s leading engine remanufacturers.

The task was to create a full-wall graphic that would transform their boardroom into an engaging and visually striking space. The concept? To celebrate the spirit of motorsports, specifically the iconic 1965 battle between the Ford GT40 and Ferrari P4.

The process came with its challenges, especially due to the limited reference material and the curved wall structure. Here’s a step-by-step look at how we brought this project to life:

Step 1: Understanding the Client’s Vision
Before beginning the design process, the team at Fuel Studio sat down with Original Engines Co to fully understand their vision. The goal was to create a wall graphic that would:

• Enhance the professional atmosphere of their boardroom.
• Align with their core values of precision, quality, and performance.
• Pay homage to motorsports, using imagery of the Ford GT40 and Ferrari P4 from the 1965 races.

We aimed to design an image that would wrap around the boardroom's curved wall, making visitors feel immersed in a historic moment of high-speed competition.

Step 2: The Concept – Motorsports Showdown
After aligning with the client’s vision, we decided on a dynamic racing scene featuring the two iconic rivals. The scene would symbolise competition, innovation, and excellence; qualities central to Original Engines Co’s brand identity.

The large format of the wall (9 meters wide) and its curved structure provided an opportunity to create a graphic that would flow naturally around the room, adding a sense of motion and excitement.

Step 3: Overcoming Limited Reference Material
One of the first challenges we faced was the lack of high-quality reference images for the Ferrari P4. While we had good resources for the Ford GT40, the Ferrari was a bit trickier due to the limited availability of high-resolution images online.

The AI Solution:
To overcome this, Fuel Studio leveraged AI tools to assist in the creation and enhancement of the imagery:
Midjourney: This tool helped generate the Ford GT40 and an initial racing scene. However, the Ferrari P4 required additional attention.
flux-dev-lora: We used this technology to take 30 small, low-resolution images of the Ferrari P4, upscale them, and then train a custom model to accurately recreate the Ferrari P4 in the exact position and angle needed for the final composition.

Step 4: Creating the Composition
With both cars generated at high quality, we moved into the composition phase. Since the graphic needed to flow smoothly across the curved wall, we had to carefully plan the layout to ensure the scene appeared dynamic and seamless.

Designing for the Curved Wall:
We strategically placed the Ferrari P4 on the curved portion of the wall to give the impression that it was overtaking the Ford GT40, heightening the sense of action. This approach used the wall’s curvature to enhance the storytelling and create an immersive visual experience.

Step 5: Post-Production with Photoshop
Once the images were generated and positioned, we used Photoshop for post-production work:

Lighting and Detail Adjustments: We fine-tuned the lighting to make sure the cars looked realistic within the scene, matching shadows and highlights to the overall environment.
Adding Depth with Blur: By applying distance blur to the background, we were able to add a greater sense of depth, making the cars feel like they were in motion.
Final Refinements: Additional details like reflections, motion effects, and minor adjustments to color balance helped bring the scene to life.

Step 6: Upscaling for Large-Format Printing
Because the graphic was intended for a large wall (9 meters wide by 2.7 meters high), it was crucial to upscale the final image while maintaining its clarity and sharpness. Using Photoshop’s neural filters, we upscaled the image 4x, ensuring that every detail remained crisp, even at this massive scale.

Step 7: Printing and Installation
After finalizing the design, the artwork was printed on high-quality material suitable for wall applications. The installation team carefully applied the graphic to the two connected walls, ensuring a seamless visual flow across the curve.

The result? A bold, dynamic motorsports scene that has transformed the boardroom into an inspiring space, perfectly aligned with Original Engines Co's brand identity.

Final Outcome: Exceeding Client Expectations

The completed project went beyond just enhancing the boardroom—it added a sense of energy and professionalism that perfectly matched Original Engines Co’s values. The feedback from the client was overwhelmingly positive, with the team at Original Engines impressed by how the design captured the essence of competition and excellence.

By using AI-driven tools like Midjourney and flux-dev-lora, as well as traditional design techniques, we were able to:

• Overcome challenges posed by limited reference material.
• Create a stunning, high-quality design.
• Exceed the client’s expectations with a final product that blends innovation, artistry, and technical precision.
